If you don't have the OS X discs installation discs, then you can create a new administrator user account from System Preferences > Accounts, then logout from existing account, login to new account and delete the old account from System Preferences > Accounts. That erase free space option in Disk Utility is for making the deleted files non recoverable. You can't erase the internal hard drive without the OS X installation discs.
